activism

Each project that gets shown here lived from the commitment of many people. I initiated, communicated, organized or developed strategies. Sometimes my contribution was big, sometimes small - but never did I achieve anything all by myself.

Sächsische Landtagswahl

SPD2.png

Logo_Folie_Video.png

Kraft für Leipzig was a public health initiative that I co-initiated in 2021. Its goal was to strengthen public health care and social cohesion through public programms for exercise. To this end, we wanted to establish high-quality gymnastics facilities and group classes for everyone in Leipzig. Excerpt from an article in the local journal Leipziger Volkszeitung of June 16, 2021: "The current trends toward obesity or posture problems and joint pain are structural problems for which structural solutions are needed, Kodytek explains." The initiative is no longer active.

Zukunft Sachsen

ZS_VISI_Front._Finaljpg.jpg

Radstation_edited.jpg

In 2019 I initiated a petition for a bike station at Leipzig Central Station. The campaign was successful. The city council in Leipzig has voted in favour of the bike station. The Leipziger Volkszeitung wrote this about the petition: "At Leipzig's main station, a possibility to park one's bike safely and protected from wind and weather is missing so far. An online petition is now putting pressure on the city administration. The construction of a bike station is long overdue, thinks initiator Sascha Kodytek from Leipzig."

Kreuzberger Kinderstiftung

In 2019, I became a shareholder of the Kreuzberg Children's Foundation. The foundation is committed to educational justice. It pursues this goal through support programs, scholarships and its own projects. Two projects in particular stand out for me: School Year Abroad and the IKAROS project. Schuljahr im Ausland enables children from financially weak households to spend a school year abroad. The IKAROS project supports people on the second educational path. The foundation is organized as a non-profit stock corporation and is a highly innovative legal form that enables genuine participation (including by young people). I am no longer a shareholder of the foundation but i still support its goals.

Political Education

Aktivismus_edited.jpg

In 2018, I spoke at ZEIT Online's Z2X conference about political education, as a means against ignorance and hate. Among other things I was informed by my experiences as an activist in Dresden, where I was confronted with the bad temper of the local far-right movements in 2015. There were people throwing eggs and shouting "vermin" in the faces of refugees. That hatred is still an internal spur for me today. I wonder if we can rid society of hate. And hate is often born out of ignorance, at least according to activist legend Daryl Davis. Therefore I think education can help.

Gesellschaft für Gemeinsinn

GfG.png

In 2017, I co-founded the association Gesellschaft für Gemeinsinn. The goal of the association is to strengthen public spirit in our society. At that time, we aligned the work of the association around three mutually reinforcing pillars: Project work, events and blog posts. On the one hand, this created space to develop ideas for strengthening public spirit, and on the other hand, these ideas could be directly put into practice through projects. I am no longer active in the association.

Pulse of Europe

Was-treibt-Leipziger-Studierende-fuer-Europa-auf-die-Strasse_reference_4_3_edited.jpg

In 2017, I got involved with Pulse of Europe to make the European idea visible again. As activists, we stood up against euroskeptic positions. In its coverage of one of our demonstrations, the Leipziger Volkszeitung wrote on 01.08.2017: "The rally will be moderated by law student Sascha Kodytek. [...] Kodytek especially wants young people to live the European idea in everyday life - be it in conversation with fellow students or at the ballot box."

Youth parliament

JuPa.png

From 2017 to 2019, I was a member of the youth parliament in Leipzig, where I gained my first experience of parliamentary work. Every two years, Leipzig residents between the ages of 14 and 22 elect the youth parliament. The parliament is the representation of the youth in the city and is interlocked with the political system. It has the right to make motions and speak in the city council and can influence the city administration - democracy at your fingertips!

Dresden für Alle

Dresden_fuer_Alle.jpg

In 2015, I was a member of the first network council of Dresden für Alle. The network was founded to strengthen a democratic and inclusive Dresden and as a reaction to PEGIDA. When a shelter for asylum seekers in Freital was attacked in 2015, we organized protest and aid deliveries. The picture above was taken during the unloading of the delivery.

Bildung statt Rassismus

Bildung-statt-Rassismus-demonstriert-fuer-mehr-gesellschaftliche-Bildung_master_reference.

In 2015, I got involved as a student against right-wing extremism in Dresden in the initiative Education instead of Racism. The Sächsische Zeitung wrote our protest: "Hundreds of students demonstrated on Saturday for education and against racism. Previously, there were hate comments on the Internet. [...] Past the synagogue, the students walk to the Altmarkt. It is the only moment when there are brief exchanges with a handful of Pegida supporters who have lined up on the sidelines. With the final rally at Theaterplatz, the student protest ends with thoughtful words. "We must not look at Pegida as a big brown sauce, but must deal with the individual people," says Sascha Kodytek of the Dreikönigschule. "It's important to take action against it in everyday life."

Bildet die Rettung ...

Rettet die Bildung2-min.jpg

In 2012 i was active as a student against the education emergency in Saxony. A publication by the Saxon Teachers' Association describes the action: "Dressed in black and with sad expressions, the students of the Kant Gymnasium in Leipzig gathered in the schoolyard on the morning of March 28, 2012 to kick off the Saxony-wide student action day against teacher shortages and the education emergency. "We have come together here to say farewell to education," Sascha Kodytek of the high school's student council began his eulogy. Earlier, students staged an impressive funeral march and carried a coffin to the grave with the word Education written on it."
